Colon hydrotherapy, also known as Colonics is a safe, gentle and effective way to cleansing of the large intestine (Colon) without drugs. The waste is softened and loosened by a gentle infusion of filtered and temperature regulated water, resulting in elimination through natural peristalsis. Colon Hydrotherapy is non-addictive; it simply encourages the natural colon function by stimulating peristalsis. At Advance Detox Center, we use state-of-the-art FDA registered open and closed devices using a 3 stage filter and temperature-controlled water. The client lies on a table/basin connected to a Colon Hydrotherapy device, with a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle, while water gently circulates into the colon. To ensure maximum sanitation, we use a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle for each client.
Colon Hydrotherapy’s main strength is hydration and can impact the whole digestive system. Almost anyone can benefit from internal cleansing. Most people feel great after their session; others may feel differently according to what they have eliminated. The therapist can give more information for each personal experience.
About the "Open" System for Colonic Hydrotherapy
With an open system you lie on a molded fiberglass table that looks like a recliner. The form-fitted table has a basin cut into it & a small, sterile disposable rectal speculum, about the size of a pencil is attached at one end. After demonstrating how to gently self-insert the speculum, our therapist leaves the room, providing total privacy for the client. The therapist returns when you are ready and provides instruction during your first session, However private time can be provided once you are familiar with how everything operates and feel comfortable being left on your own. The session begins with a gentle, continuous flow of gravity-fed water through the rectal tube & into you. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water can release. As water is flowing out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the client can view their elimination. This process is repeated during the approximately 35-45 minute session. To ensure maximum sanitation, we use a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle for each client. Client is to wear a comfortable shirt and supplied with a disposable sheet.
Our clients report extremely high levels of satisfaction with this system, for two main reasons:
1.One of the key factors is that your privacy and personal hygiene are maintained at all times, since the specially designed bed allows you to easily insert the ‘pencil thin’ lubricated rectal tube by yourself. Many people find this deeply reassuring and comforting.
2. Secondly, the entirety of our clients report the LIBBE colonic irrigation open system to be extremely comfortable with virtually no discomfort at all. Because the continuous inflow of water provides more natural, gentle releases, the peristalsis (action of the muscles of the colon) is greatly stimulated.
About Our "Closed" System for Colonic Hydrotherapy
The client is lying comfortably on a table, a sterile disposable speculum is self-inserted into the rectum. The therapist is in the treatment room throughtout the duration of the treatment, who controls the flow of water. Water flows in the colon via a small water tube and out through a different tube called a waste tube which carries the impacted feces, mucous, and toxins. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water can release. As water is flowing out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the client can view their elimination, this allows you to interpet what issues may be present in the colon. This process is repeated during the approximately 35-45 minute session.. Clients wear gown and/or Shorts for privacy, ease and comfort during the session. To ensure maximum sanitation, we use a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle for each client.
Neither one is “better” than the other. It is really down to personal preference as to which to use and our highly trained IACT registered and certified therapists will be there to guide and help you throughout.

Questions and Answers to Colon Hydrotherapy:
How do I know if I need Colon Hydrotherapy?
If you have frequent headaches, colds, gas and bloating, fatigue, constipation, impaired digestion, candida, bad breath or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) you could benefit from receiving colon hydrotherapy.
How Do I Prepare for my Colonic?
- The days before the appointment eat as many water content foods as possible, examples: raw and cooked green leafy vegetables, raw vegetable drinks and whole grains. This will start hydrating the colon to ease your experience.
- Try to cut down on all processed foods, examples: white flour products, cheese, dried foods, greasy foods and sugar. These foods have a tendency to dehydrate the colon and can make the experience more challenging.
- Avoid eating 2 hours before the colon hydrotherapy appointment.
- Avoid drinking liquids 1 hour before. It can make your bladder full during the colon hydrotherapy session.
Avoid all diuretic foods one day prior to your appointment, including; coffee, tea or soda. These can dehydrate and also make the bladder full.
Come relaxed, and maintain a positive, cheerful attitude.
How does Colon Hydrotherapy compare to an enema?
An enema only reaches and hydrates the lower part of the colon which is the rectum the lowest 8 to 12 inches of the colon, while Colon Hydrotherapy hydrates the entire length of the colon, in which is over 6 feet long. The colon is bathed over a longer period of time, thus helping to rehydrate the colon and soften any hardened waste that may be stuck to the walls of the colon. As stated by Dr. Norman Walker, one Colonic is equivalent to 30 enemas.
Can constipation occur even if I have 1 or 2 bowel movements a day?
Yes . Mucoid plaque and gas in the colon may interfere with natural peristaltic action, resulting in incomplete—though frequent—bowel movements. This backup of toxic waste can cause a wide range of problems in the digestive tract and throughout the entire body.
How many times do I need Colon Hydrotherapy?
The number of treatments varies with each individual and depends on your degree of health. It will also depend on your ability to change or improve your lifestyle. For the first-time client an initial series of six to ten visits over several weeks is recommended. Once you have completed the initial series it is recommended a colon cleansing four times a year. If may help you to remember to have a cleansing with the change of every season.
Do treatments hurt?
No . In fact, the client self-inserts the speculum thus insuring comfort with that part of the procedure. The filling water pressure is from a minimum of 1/4 psi and never more than 1psi. The temperature of the water and flow are carefully monitored by the therapist with feedback from the client.
How much of the intestines are actually cleansed with Colon Hydrotherapy?
During a session the therapist is actually able to bathe the full length of the colon, approximately five to five and a half feet. The cleansing of the small intestine is not possible because nature provides a little “one way door” called the ileocecal valve that prevents water and waste from entering. The buildup in the small intestine is cleared with the help of nutritional supplements taken orally during a series of cleansing and detoxification.
Should I see my doctor before having Colon Hydrotherapy?
It is always a good idea to consult your doctor, but a medical examination is not required. Colon Hydrotherapy is safer than home enemas, and at Advanced Detox Center, we use only a state-of-the-art approved device professionally administered by an I-ACT certified colon therapist. Persons with certain medical conditions, however, should not have Colon Hydrotherapy.
Condra-Indications- Colon hydrotherapy is NOT recommended for people with extreme or uncontrolled hypertension, congestive heart failure, aneurysm, sever anemia, GI hemorrhage/perforation, severe hemorrhoids, severe diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, cirrhosis, renal insufficiency, carcinoma of the colon, fissures. fistulas, abdominal hernia, recent colon surgery (less than 3 months), and pregnancies.
Does having a menstrual period at the time of my cleanse have an effect on the treatment?
No . In fact, during your period is usually a good time to receive a treatment, since your body is already cleansing. Your menstrual flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment. Flushing the colon will also reduce abdominal pressure associated with menstrual cycles.
Can I work after a treatment?
Yes. In most cases Colon Hydrotherapy should not interfere with your scheduled day. However each person is different and your reaction depends on the amount of toxins in your body. If you are detoxifying while having colonics, you may feel more tired and run down as your body cleanses itself of the toxins. Most clients report feeling refreshed and energized.
How long does a treatment take?
Your first appointment will take about an hour and will include a consultation and case history. The colonic itself will take 30 to 45 minutes and each visit thereafter will take about an 50 minutes in total.
Will I experience any intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?
You should not feel any intestinal discomfort, but cleansing will release old debris and toxins which might cause you to feel tired or to have flu like symptoms, especially in early treatments. If so, resting is recommended. These symptoms will usually pass within 24 hours. There are Home Remedies on the Post-Colonic page of this site.
Will Colon Hydrotherapy disturb my normal intestinal flora ?
Yes, Colon cleansing will reduce your intestinal flora. However, after each session, you can reintroduce intestinal flora into the colon with probiotics which will be offered to you along with purified water before leaving the clinic. You can also replace your intestinal flora by drinking Kefir or Essential Duo.
